Adelaide City Central Tower 2 Chilled Beam Project Highly SuccessfulThe prestigious Adelaide City Central Tower 2 project for which Air Technology supplied Chilled Beams and Chillers is in its second year of operation.11 March 2009 -- The Chillers supplied by Air Technology Australia for the project were commissioned just prior to Christmas 2007. There are three water cooled Climaveneta Chillers installed in a high level plant room to supply chilled water for the Chilled Beams and for dehumidification of the fresh air supply for the building. The chillers are designed to operate at 15 degrees C for Chilled Beam supply conditions which allows very high chiller efficiencies. The same chillers can also run at 6 degrees chilled water flow temperature for the dehumidification function. Installed by local contractors Westside Mechanical Air Technology Australia supplied 700 passive Chilled Beams to provide the cooling function for each floor plate. Designed by Lincolne Scott Adelaide, the project had as its goal the best possible indoor environment for the building occupants. In addition to extremely low noise levels compared to conventional air conditioning, and excellent air temperature control the space is virtually free of noticeable air movement. Not only has this goal been achieved but the system uses far less energy than conventional air conditioning designs. Fresh air is introduced via high induction rate Swirl Diffusers at a flow sufficient to ensure there are no draughts and that meets the requirements for ventilation. The Passive Chilled Beams were manufactured in Sweden and delivered to site in Adelaide from May 2007. Full load testing to the stringent requirements laid down by Lincolne Scott was carried out in Laboratories in Sweden.
Artists impression of the new City Central Tower 2 Building in Adelaide CBD Since its completion in early 2008 Air Technology Australia has been supplying additional Passive Chilled Beams for the Tenancy Fit Outs as the building occupancy increases. Cooling loads our nearing their maximum with the building being almost fully occupied. Over the two summers Adelaide has experienced in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 the have been periods of prolonged heat wave conditions with ambient temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in the City. On these occasions both the Climaveneta Chillers and the Passive Chilled Beam system have exceeded expectations.
